“The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.” —Ecclesiastes 1:1 (NKJV)
I sat down to study the book of Ecclesiastes, and the very first scripture I read blew my mind. It states, “The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.” —Ecclesiastes 1:1 (NKJV). This verse describes the writer of the book, King Solomon, who was not only the king of Jerusalem but also a preacher. Do you know what it means to be a king? Solomon carried an immense amount of responsibility on his shoulders for everyone in his kingdom, yet he still made time to preach.
He didn’t assume that because he had reached the throne, his service to God was over. Unlike many people in our society today, he was never too busy to educate others about the Lord. One thing I have noticed about many Christians today is that when they become comfortable or attain powerful positions, they no longer see a reason to serve God or even listen to His word. Some become so busy that you can easily count the number of times they step foot inside a church all year.
They fail to realize that serving the Lord is the most important thing in this world. Therefore, I encourage you to not just believe in Christ, but to actively serve His purposes. Refuse to let the promotions God gives you keep you away from Him. Do not allow His blessings to make you neglect worship, fellowship, and service.
You must never outgrow serving, worshiping, studying the Bible, and gathering with other believers. These spiritual disciplines help keep you exactly on the path God has designed for you. When you stay committed to them, you will watch your life move from glory to glory, and His blessings will continually abound in everything you do.

You can’t be too big to serve the Lord; start serving Him now!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for all that You have done in my life. I thank You for the opportunity You have given me to serve You. If kings can serve Your purpose on earth, who am I not to serve the purpose of the Most High God? I declare that I will serve the Lord with all my heart all the days of my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
