…but when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding. —2 Corinthians 10:12b (ESV)
Over the years, I have discovered that the root of discontent in the world today is comparison. I know this might not go down well with everyone, but it is the truth. The moment you begin to compare yourself to other people and their achievements, you will become unhappy and dissatisfied. Some people lack joy today because they measure their success against others, forgetting that we do not all carry the same grace.
In your walk with God, you must understand that He does not want you comparing yourself to anyone else. We do not all share the same purpose; God has created us uniquely. No matter how hard you try, you can never do certain things exactly the way others do them, and they cannot replicate what you do. There is a beautiful and distinct difference between you and your neighbor.
The moment you compare yourself to another person, you miss the mark and risk losing sight of the destiny God has planned for you. You must completely stop comparing yourself to your neighbor. Naturally, there are times when you see peers you started out with achieving great things, and you might feel left out. However, you must control this feeling before it destroys your peace.
You must understand that just because others have achieved so much does not mean you are left behind. There is a designated time for everyone, so learn to wait for God’s appointed time in your life. Remember, envying others or comparing yourself to them does not help you reach their level of success. It only brings pain and makes you feel like God is not working in your life. Therefore, I admonish you to arm yourself with this truth at all times.
Today’s Rhema
As long as you compare yourself to others, you will always be an unhappy person who is dissatisfied in all things.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank You for revealing this truth to me. I declare that from now on, I will only see and acknowledge what You are doing in my life. I will not compare myself to anybody. Instead, I will appreciate what You are doing in other people’s lives. I know that You, who have blessed them, will also grant my heart’s desires at the appointed time in Jesus’ name. Amen.
