While Jesus was saying this, some messengers came from Jairus’ house and told him, “Your daughter has died. Why bother the Teacher any longer?” Jesus paid no attention to what they said, but told him, “Don’t be afraid, only believe.” —Mark 5:35-36 (GNT)

Having established the need to believe and not be afraid in the first part of this article, you might say this is not easy to do—especially when faced with a completely hopeless situation. While that sounds true, it is the narrative Jesus wants to change in our lives. When we look carefully at His response to Jairus, He gave a clear command: “…Don’t be afraid, only believe.” —Mark 5:36 (GNT)

This was not just an ordinary statement. Jesus was trying to give the man a perspective and a mindset that we should all adopt whenever we face difficult situations. Why? Because with God, there is actually no hopeless situation. Too often, our challenge is that we lack the right mindset and attitude needed to find the solutions we seek. We give up too quickly and conclude that our circumstances are beyond repair.

That defeatist attitude is exactly what Jesus wants us to change. He doesn’t want our reality to be determined by the temporary situations we go through. Instead, He wants our lives to be anchored on our walk with Him and our faith in His word. He knows that if we maintain this focus, no situation can remain hopeless. Sadly, we often let the severity of our problems become our reality, which is never His desire for us.

Therefore, I encourage you today to look beyond the apparent hopelessness of your situation. Look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Remember that through faith in His name, anything is possible. Focus on Him, wait for His instructions, and simply align yourself with His will. You will be amazed at how easily solutions spring forth. Hallelujah!
