…but when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding. —2 Corinthians 10:12b (ESV)
Having established the importance of not comparing yourself to others, you might say it is sometimes hard to avoid because of your current situation. While I understand that feeling, comparing yourself to others is never the right approach. At the end of the day, it does not change your circumstances or bring overnight success. Therefore, you must stop doing it for your own good. Instead of comparing yourself to others and growing dissatisfied, rejoice with those who have achieved success in their lives. Let them positively inspire you, and let their achievements motivate you to stay focused, work hard, and trust God for your own breakthroughs.
Never envy others or say things like, “I just wish it were me.” Such statements will ruin you in the long run and cause you to dwell on the negative things in life. Just because your neighbor has achieved a lot does not mean you have failed. You must never forget this truth. The Bible gives us a clear warning about this mindset:
…when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding. —2 Corinthians 10:12 (ESV)
Refuse to live without understanding, because that is not God’s plan for you. Choose instead to focus on what God has done for you so far. Be patient and remain grateful to Him from the depths of your heart so you can see Him do even more in your life.
If you must compare, let it be with your past. Strive to outdo your past achievements, and make sure you are making steady progress in whatever capacity you find yourself. Most importantly, be content with where you are now, because that is the secret that will take you further in life.
Now godliness with contentment is great gain. —1 Timothy 6:6 (NKJV)
Do you see that? Instead of comparing yourself to others, rejoice with them. Focus on what you are doing, and trust that your own time will come. Hallelujah!
Today’s Rhema
If you must compare, let it be with yourself; always try to outdo your past!
Prayer
Thank You, Heavenly Father, for Your Word, which has stirred up wisdom in me. I choose this day to be content with what I have and where I am. I choose to rejoice and celebrate with those who are succeeding, because I know that my time to be celebrated will surely come in Jesus’ name. Amen.
