“But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.” — Matthew 5:22 (NKJV)

Anger is an emotion we express when we feel offended or irritated by someone or something. God gave us this gift to help us communicate how we feel when we’re displeased. However, we abuse this gift when we fail to manage it and allow it to get out of hand. As a child of God, you must guard your heart and bring your anger under control. It’s also vital to ensure you don’t get angry without a cause.

In our opening scripture, Jesus shared a striking truth that we need to examine. He warned that being angry with a brother without a cause puts a person in danger. This suggests it’s possible to harbor anger for no reason at all. This kind of anger is incredibly dangerous and detrimental to your life. If anger triggered by an actual offense is destructive, anger without a cause is even more perilous.

If you want to avoid the danger of judgment, you must make a conscious decision to refrain from baseless anger. I’ve noticed that people often get angry with their neighbors for no reason. You may see people living together who are clearly unhappy with one another, yet they have no real explanation for their feelings. They simply complain and grumble without cause. When you do this, you leave the confines of love and begin walking in hatred.

I remember speaking with someone who was constantly unhappy with his neighbor, even though the neighbor had done nothing wrong. Another time, I talked to a man who would get angry for no reason. He wasn’t upset with anyone specifically, but he would reach a point where he just wanted to fight and destroy things. This behavior always put him in a negative light. This type of anger isn’t just an emotion; it’s a manifestation of demonic manipulation.

I encourage you to purposely monitor your anger today. It’s always better to walk in love. If you’re walking in God’s kind of love, anger will no longer be a struggle for you. You’ll find that you gain control over your emotions with ease. Choose to let His love lead your reactions and protect your peace.
