“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing…” — John 6:63 (NKJV)
Over the years, I have seen many believers who want to change their lives but do not know how to achieve it. Because they lack this vital knowledge, they channel all their strength and effort into the physical realm. They eventually realize that these efforts simply aren’t working.
For example, you will often find people trying to get a new job because they believe it will solve their problems. However, once that new job arrives, they realize that a career change wasn’t actually what they needed. They continue going in circles because they feel that more “hustling” or extra physical effort will finally make a difference. This cycle of frustration has led many to give up on God and walk away from their faith. After toiling without results, they conclude that following God isn’t profitable. They remain unaware that the problem all along was not God, but their own approach.
Beloved, if you truly want to see a change manifest in your life, you must understand what change is and where it begins. You must realize that change does not begin from the outside or the physical realm. Instead, it begins from the inside—the spiritual realm.
As simple as this might sound, it holds the key to the transformation you are looking for. For years, Satan has deceived God’s people into thinking that change begins in the physical world. This deception drives people to study more and acquire more certificates. They may try to work multiple jobs to provoke a change, but it often leads to nothing.
These efforts, as good as they may seem, won’t do much if nothing changes spiritually. You might ask why things happen this way. The reason is that the real you is not the flesh, but the spirit. You are a spirit being who has a soul and lives in a body. This truth is highlighted in 1 Thessalonians 5:23.
The true realities of your life exist in the spiritual realm, not the physical one. In other words, everything you see on the “front end” is determined by what happens at the “back end.” If you focus on the physical without addressing your spiritual reality, your efforts will not yield results because the flesh profits nothing.
The Bible confirms this truth: “…he who sows to his own flesh (lower nature, sensuality) will from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction, but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life…” — Galatians 6:8 (AMPC). The flesh cannot accomplish much because it is not where life begins. Therefore, your focus should be on provoking change from the realm of the Spirit.
When you enforce change in the spiritual realm, everything in your physical life will begin to shift. This includes your health, your job, and your marriage. Your physical reality changes by default when you shift your spiritual current. In the next part of this article, we will look at the specific steps you need to take to provoke this spiritual change. Until then, settle this truth in your heart: if nothing changes spiritually, nothing will change physically. Praise God!
