Change Begins From the Inside (2)

Taken with a remote and a little luck, this is my serenity now moment at Lake Tahoe.

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing….” — John 6:63 (NKJV)

In the first part of this article, we established that true change begins from within. If you want to see a tangible shift in your life, your internal world must be the primary focus. This leads to an important question: what specific steps must a believer take to provoke this change?

First, you must take your inner man seriously. Invest in your spirit because that is the real you. Everything God has given you as a born-again believer in Christ is deposited in your spirit. To make these new creation blessings a reality, you must deliberately prioritize your spiritual growth.

The best way to invest in your spirit is to become an ardent student of the Bible. Commit to studying the Word consistently. Scripture is the essential food your spirit man requires to stay active. It provides the strength necessary to provoke the transformation you desire.

Secondly, you must pray more in the Spirit. When you pray in tongues, it is your spirit praying rather than your flesh. Through the Holy Spirit, your spirit receives the grace God has destined for you and communicates it to the physical realm.

When you pray in tongues often, you are praying the perfect mind of God. Consistent prayer triggers the intercession of the Spirit of God within you. As the Scripture explains:

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” — Romans 8:26-27 (NKJV)

Instead of jumping from place to place looking for external solutions, spend time praying in tongues. Whatever seems out of alignment in the spirit realm will be corrected over time through this practice.

Finally, you must take fasting seriously, ideally combining it with praying in the Spirit. Fasting is important because it is a system that helps you adopt a posture of humility in the spirit realm. This spiritual posture is exactly what leads to physical elevation.

“…God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time…” — 1 Peter 5:5-6 (NKJV)

True humility is not just about physical gestures like kneeling; it is about your spiritual alignment. Fasting facilitates this posture. If you commit to these three disciplines deliberately for a season, you will surely receive a word from the Lord that turns your life around. Give your attention to the right things and refuse to be carried away. Praise God!
