“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes… Keep sound wisdom and discretion” — Proverbs 3:5-7, 21 (NKJV)
Over the past few years, I have had the privilege of pastoring many of God’s people. Along the way, I have encountered all kinds of individuals. One group that stands out includes those who argue constantly and believe they know it all. They are never willing to learn, and whatever you share with them fails to hold their attention. They are a perfect example of the people described in Scripture: “…always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” — 2 Timothy 3:7 (NKJV)
Interestingly, when you observe their lives closely, you realize they haven’t made any significant progress because they refuse to learn anything new. Their only progress is in the art of arguing. They constantly devise arguments to reinforce their own views. Often, they quote Bible verses that seem to support their claims, yet they never settle down to understand what the Scripture actually means.
They do this believing it is the best path to follow as a Christian. However, God does not want us to live this way. The Bible makes this clear: “…Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding…” — Proverbs 3:5 (NKJV). People become unteachable when they rely too heavily on their own understanding. The truth is, no matter how educated you are, you can never know everything—especially when it comes to the Scriptures.
You must reach a place where you are willing to learn from those God has given the privilege to teach you. If you want to be successful, you must be open to learning every single day. The moment you foster an attitude of being unteachable, you automatically place a limit on your personal and spiritual growth. Therefore, it is vitally important that you take this truth seriously. Make up your mind today to be a willing learner.
When you are taught the Word, avoid being overly analytical or critical of everything you hear. Instead, learn with a listening mind and a willing heart. A good learner learns submissively and remains open to Godly instruction. Make a conscious decision today to be a teachable Christian. Identify sound teaching, submit to it, and you will be amazed by the wonderful impact it has on your life. Praise God!

Prayer
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for teaching me the undiluted Word. I declare that henceforth, every unteachable spirit is banished from me, and the grace to learn and learn again rests on me in the name of Jesus!
