“And the Philistine said, ‘I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.’ When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.” —1 Samuel 17:10–11 (NKJV)
The scripture above shows that the children of Israel were deeply intimidated by the size of Goliath of Gath. Because of their fear, they forgot the strength of God. They judged their chances based on Goliath’s stature and accepted defeat before the battle even began. Sadly, this is the reality for many children of God today, but it ought not to be so.
Sometimes, people look at the size of their adversary or the challenges facing them and assume the obstacle is too big to handle. They believe the mountain is too high to climb or level. Instead, we should be like Sarah. The Bible says:
“And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.” —Hebrews 11:11 (NIV)
The odds against her were obvious, but she did not give in to them.
Maybe you have found yourself in a difficult situation, or perhaps you are surrounded by people who seem to be doing very well. Seeing others with good positions, high salaries, or profitable businesses might cause you to underrate yourself and feel insignificant in comparison. But I have good news for you today. The fact that your neighbor has reached great heights in life does not mean you are worthless, nor does it mean there is no room for your success.
If your neighbor is doing well, do not be intimidated. It simply means that God is working on you, too. You might be facing challenges that make it look as though you will never conquer the odds. When this happens, be like Sarah. Don’t be intimidated by your circumstances; instead, consider God, because He is faithful. Amen!

I decree that I am not moved by the size of the mountain before me, nor am I intimidated by the successes of those around me. God is my strength, He is my provision, and He is my prosperity. Amen!
