O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge—by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith. —1 Timothy 6:20-21 (NKJV)
In the passage above, Apostle Paul addressed Timothy about what was expected of him on his Christian journey. By doing so, he also addressed the entire body of Christ. It’s common practice today for people to claim Christianity yet live as if they aren’t believers. Human hearts have become so busy that many find no room for God in their lives.
Many have strayed from their calling to pursue wealth, while others have let peer pressure pull them away from identifying with Jesus. Unfortunately, this aligns with the prophecy concerning the end times. The Bible warns of these coming distractions and the shift in human character that marks the final days.
…there will be difficult times in the last days. People will be selfish, greedy, boastful, and conceited; they will be insulting, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, and irreligious; they will be unkind, merciless, slanderers, violent, and fierce; they will hate the good; they will be treacherous, reckless, and swollen with pride; they will love pleasure rather than God; they will hold to the outward form of religion but reject its real power… —2 Timothy 3:1-5 (GNT)
You shouldn’t allow this prophecy to be fulfilled in your life. Instead, cling to God no matter the circumstances and love Him genuinely with all your heart. I encourage you to hold firmly to the Word of God during both difficult seasons and good times. A close look at the opening scripture reveals that we have been entrusted with the gospel of Jesus.
The Word also shows that we must hold our faith and the gospel firmly, as they have been committed to our trust. Staying committed to the gospel of Jesus will always keep us in right standing with God. Most importantly, our dedication to our faith is what grants us the right to win the crown we’ve anticipated all our lives. Don’t distance yourself from the Lord just because life is going well; walk with Him every day.
