No Matter the Odds, Be Persistent in Prayers

Devotionals

Pray at all times, be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus. —1 Thessalonians 5:17–18 (GNT)

One thing you must do as you grow in your relationship with God is learn to be persistent in prayer. Prayer is an important part of your fellowship with God because it gives you the opportunity to communicate with Him, express your needs, seek His wisdom, and deepen your dependence on Him. Unfortunately, many believers become discouraged when their prayers are not answered as quickly as they expect. They pray for a while, become impatient, and gradually give up.

However, God wants you to develop a consistent prayer life that is not controlled by how quickly circumstances change or how quickly you receive a miracle. Instead, He wants you to develop a prayer life that is controlled by your love for Him and your willingness to spend time with Him.

Someone might ask, “But what should I do when I have prayed for something for a long time and nothing seems to be happening?” You should continue to seek God while remaining open to His wisdom and direction. Persistent prayer does not mean trying to force God to do what you want. Rather, it means maintaining your fellowship with Him, trusting His character, and refusing to let discouragement separate you from Him.

Remember, Jesus taught His disciples that they should always pray and never become discouraged. —Luke 18:1 (GNT) Through this teaching, He encouraged them not to give up but to continue bringing their concerns before God, and we are expected to do the same.

Therefore, make a conscious decision to develop consistency in prayer. Set aside time to pray daily, bring your concerns to God honestly, and remember to thank Him for His goodness. Pray not only when you need something but also when you want to worship Him, seek guidance, and grow spiritually.

Be willing to listen, examine your heart, and take practical steps in obedience to what you understand from His Word and the revelations He gives you in dreams at night. Even when answers seem delayed, continue to trust God and remain faithful in your walk with Him. Remember, the reason you pray is not just to get answers but to keep your relationship and fellowship with God active.

Prayer

Father, I thank You for the privilege of prayer. Give me the grace to remain persistent and faithful in my fellowship with You. Help me to pray with confidence, wait with patience, and trust Your wisdom even when I do not understand the process, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
