“We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies.” —2 Thessalonians 3:11 (NIV)

The title of today’s devotional, “Learn to Mind Your Business,” is self-explanatory. It simply means taking care of your own affairs and refusing to be bothered by things that do not concern you. There is so much we can accomplish in life if we give our own goals the attention they deserve. Unfortunately, many people fail to make progress because they neglect their personal development.

Instead, they spend their time poking into other people’s business, leaving little room to discover how they can improve themselves. If they invested the same amount of time and energy into their own growth, their lives would drastically improve. Most of the time, people who constantly meddle in the affairs of others are not genuinely busy.

In fact, many of them do not even work, yet they have a million excuses for why they cannot find a job. They wander from house to house just to gather the latest information about others. Interestingly, they know exactly what is happening everywhere, but they are not making any progress in their own lives because of their idleness.

Beloved, this is not how God wants us to live. He wants us to be productive because meaningful work gives you purpose and helps you contribute to society. Everyone should have something valuable to do. Even little children are kept occupied in daycare centers with music and games, while older children go to school to get an education. If children can stay busy, adults certainly should as well.

To avoid meddling in other people’s matters, refuse to stay idle. Focus on yourself and get involved in constructive activities that keep you properly occupied. When you dedicate yourself to something meaningful, your life becomes a blessing to both yourself and those around you. As you choose to focus on your own affairs, you will inevitably become a person of value. Make the decision today to mind your business, and concentrate on what you can do to improve your own life. Hallelujah!

Today’s Rhema

Get busy; don’t stay idle!

Prayer

Father, I thank You for giving me a mind that works. I declare that I use my mind, time, and energy to be productive in my life. I am not idle, and therefore, I will not find myself meddling in other people’s affairs. Amen!
