“…God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” —John 4:24 (NKJV)

In the first part of this article, we emphasized the need to follow God with your spirit rather than your senses. If you do not follow God this way, you will miss out on the reality of your walk with Him. Consequently, you will be unable to tap into His promises for your life. I have seen many people complain about not receiving from God. They think the issue lies with Him, but they fail to realize that the problem has been with them all along. They try to receive from God the same way they would receive from a human being, but it does not work that way.

The Bible tells the story of how God visited Solomon in a dream and asked him what he wanted. Solomon asked God for an understanding heart to judge His people, and God granted his request. When Solomon woke up in the morning, he realized it had been a dream. He immediately went to Jerusalem, stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered up burnt offerings. This act signified his understanding that he had just received a divine visitation. He knew that offering a sacrifice was the way to seal what God had promised.

And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the lord, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants. —1 Kings 3:15 (KJV)

In the same way God reached out to Solomon, He has tried to reach out to many people who ultimately failed to understand His actions or gifts. This happens because they do not comprehend how to receive from Him. Solomon, however, understood the process and claimed his blessings. I encourage you today to walk in the reality of this truth, knowing that God is Spirit, not man. If you relate to Him this way in every area of your life, your results will abound like never before. God bless you!
