Over the years, I have had the opportunity to lead several prayer services, and I have noticed a common trend: people often prefer to pray only for themselves. Whenever prayer points are raised for the nations, leaders, or broader groups, many do not take them as seriously. They may participate, but they lack the fervency they display when praying about their personal lives. To make matters worse, the only time many pray for others is when prompted in church. Once home, their prayers center entirely on themselves and their immediate families, week after week.
This prayer pattern can continue for months or even years. While praying consistently is a good habit, focusing exclusively on your own needs creates an unbalanced prayer life. This one-sided approach ultimately hinders your spiritual growth. When you pray only for yourself, you forfeit the distinct blessings reserved for those who intercede for others.
A special reward accompanies faithful intercession. No matter how long you have been a Christian or how spiritual you consider yourself, this blessing remains out of reach if you fail to pray for others. As long as you neglect to lift others up in prayer, these blessings will not rest upon your life.
As you journey in your Christian walk, I encourage you to bring balance to your prayer life by taking time to intercede for others as well. The Apostle Paul emphasized this priority in our opening text when he wrote:

This passage makes it clear that we are obligated to pray for others. When you faithfully intercede, God will surely reward your labor of love. As Scripture reminds us:
God is always fair. He will remember how you helped his people in the past and how you are still helping them. You belong to God, and he won’t forget the love you have shown his people. —Hebrews 6:10 (CEV)
Begin today by making intercession a consistent part of your prayer life. When you commit to praying for others, God Himself will reveal specific needs and people for you to pray for. As you step into this calling, the rewards of intercession will manifest abundantly in your life. Hallelujah!

Confession for the Day
By the mercies of God, I have received a new understanding regarding intercession. Therefore, I declare today that the grace to intercede daily is mightily at work in me. As I intercede, I receive strength to pray even more in the name of Jesus. Amen.
