The Lord hates liars, but is pleased with those who keep their word. —Proverbs 12:22 (GNT)

Beloved, as you grow in your Christian walk, you must understand that God wants you to be trustworthy in what you say. Do not make up stories or repeat claims simply because you heard them from someone else. What you say can affect another person’s name, relationships, and well-being.

Before you pass on information, stop and ask yourself, “Do I know this is true?” If you are not sure, do not repeat it as fact. It is better to say, “I don’t know if that is true,” or to say nothing. In the book of Colossians, the Bible instructs believers:

Do not lie to one another, for you have put off the old self with its habits… —Colossians 3:9 (GNT)

Did you see that?

Be especially careful when talking about someone who is not present. Do not turn a private concern into gossip or spread a rumor for entertainment. If there is a real problem that needs attention, speak respectfully to the person involved or to someone who can responsibly help.

If you learn that something you shared was false, correct it with the people who heard you. Do not hide the truth to protect your reputation.

Make honesty a daily habit, even when telling the truth feels uncomfortable. Learn to keep your promises, speak carefully, and do not add details you cannot confirm. Above all, become consistent in telling the truth.

Today’s Rhema

Check what you hear, speak what is true, and correct yourself when you have passed on something false!

Prayer

Father, help me to always speak honestly and to avoid spreading what I do not know to be true. Give me courage to correct my words when I have misled someone. Help me become trustworthy in Jesus’ name. Amen!
