“…for this is the will of God, your sanctification…that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honour…” — 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 (NKJV)

Having discussed extensively in the first part of this article the importance of keeping your thoughts clean, someone might say, “But sir, I don’t really have control over my thoughts, so how do I make my mind clean?” Well, that is not completely true. To an extent, you have control over what goes into your mind, and that is the ultimate key. If you can control what enters, you will control what happens there and what comes out of it.

In other words, if you become mindful of what enters your mind, you will take dominion over its affairs and determine its output. Your mind is like an empty field. If you leave it alone, unwanted weeds will begin to grow. However, if you commit to tending the field and sowing the right seeds, it will produce the exact harvest you desire.

Beloved, your mind operates just like that field; if you can control what goes in, you will control what comes out. You might ask, “How do I control what goes into my mind?” It is very simple! Start with what you hear, see, and read. These are the three major avenues through which the mind receives its seeds. If you continuously listen to the wrong things, watch the wrong things, and read the wrong materials, the information gathered from these sources will pollute your mind and dictate what flows out of it.

However, when you start listening to, reading, and watching the right materials—faith and spirit-filled content—you sow the right seeds into your mind. By default, pure thoughts will begin to flow. Start today by mounting a guard over your thoughts. Do not expose yourself to pollutants like wrong information or ungodly conversations. Instead, continue in God’s word because it helps your thoughts stay sanctified.

Remember, Jesus said, “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.” — John 15:3 (NKJV). This reminds us that God’s word keeps us clean in all areas, including our thoughts. When your thoughts are clean, your words will be clean as well. Therefore, whatever you do, make a conscious decision to always keep your mind clean. Praise God!

The easiest way to gain control of your mind is to become mindful of what you read, listen to, and watch!

Prayer

Father, I thank You for helping me understand that I can take control of what goes on in my mind. I choose today to allow only faith and spirit-filled information into my mind. By reason of this action, my mind is clean and my thoughts are pure in Jesus’ name. Amen!
