“Then He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ They immediately left their nets and followed Him.” —Matthew 4:19-20 (NKJV)
Now that you are in Christ, you must understand that being in Him is one thing, but following Him is another. Not all believers are genuine followers of Christ. Many assume that simply receiving Him into their lives is enough. They think the spiritual journey ends right there, but that could not be further from the truth.
Beloved, receiving Christ is a wonderful beginning, but it is not the finish line. The true purpose of inviting Him into your life is so you can become an ardent follower of His word, His ways, and everything He stands for. You cannot claim to be in Christ while consistently rejecting His guidance. If you do not want His counsel on the details of your life, your relationship with Him will not yield its full potential.
I encourage you to move beyond simply receiving Christ and commit to actively following Him. This step is crucial because active followership is where the true blessings of your relationship lie. Without it, you cannot unlock the abundant life available in your union with Him. As we see in our opening text, Jesus extended a clear and life-changing invitation to His soon-to-be disciples.
Take note of His powerful promise: “Follow Me, and I will make you.” This statement reveals that when we genuinely follow Jesus, He will surely make something meaningful out of our lives. If you want your walk with Him to be impactful and transformative, choose to be a dedicated follower. The best way to do this is to wholeheartedly yield to His word and do exactly what it says. Praise God!
