Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. —James 1:17 (NIV)

Having established two key reasons why Christians go through financial difficulties in the previous part of this article, we will now look at four more reasons. The third reason is what I call fishing in the wrong waters. Many believers today are involved in jobs or businesses for which they have no grace. Often, people only want to do what is trending instead of what God has called them to do.

They do not realize that what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. Unfortunately, simply following the crowd is a major reason why people struggle financially. As a believer, you should look for your specific area of grace and fish in those waters. That is exactly where God has ordained for you to prosper.

The fourth reason believers struggle is due to poor financial habits. When your financial habits are unhealthy, you will undoubtedly face difficulties regardless of how hard you work. For instance, if your expenses exceed your income, or if you spend your salary before you even receive it, you will naturally struggle. Accumulating too much debt also inevitably leads to being broke. You might earn a decent wage, but it will feel like you are not earning anything at all because your money goes directly toward paying off debts.

The fifth reason believers struggle financially is because of a wrong mindset. As simple as this might sound, many people do not realize that their mentality largely determines their financial liberty. The Bible confirms this principle: For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. —Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV). Unfortunately, many believers hold onto mindsets that prevent them from enjoying financial abundance.

The primary difference between a wealthy person and a poor person lies in how they think. A wealthy person makes their money work for them, while a poor person exhausts themselves just working for money. Did you catch the difference? One works for money, while the other makes money work for them. This shift all starts in the mind, so anyone who truly wants to succeed financially must first cultivate the right mindset regarding money.

Finally, believers sometimes face financial difficulties because they misunderstand the different seasons of life. Everyone goes through seasons of abundance and seasons of famine. When you study the Bible carefully, you will notice that since the days of Abraham, there have always been times of plenty followed by times of scarcity. A season of plenty is usually given to protect you during a season of scarcity. If you can utilize your season of plenty effectively, you will not have to suffer when leaner times arrive.

Unfortunately, many do not recognize their season of plenty. As a result, they mismanage their resources and become victims when scarcity hits. To avoid this, it is better to identify and maximize your season of plenty, just like Joseph and Pharaoh did in their time (Genesis 41:1-57). We could discuss many other reasons, but the ones provided here are crucial. If you make the necessary adjustments in these areas, nothing can stop your financial success. Praise God!
