“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” — Proverbs 17:22 (NIV)
Joy, strength, and victory are closely connected. Joy strengthens the heart, strength equips us to persevere, and perseverance often leads us into victory. When a person carries joy within, they are better prepared to face challenges, pursue worthwhile goals, and remain steadfast when circumstances become difficult.
A joyful person can also be a source of encouragement to others. Joy has a way of influencing an atmosphere, lifting discouraged hearts, and inspiring hope. It does not mean that such a person never experiences hardship; rather, it means they choose not to allow hardship to define them. In the midst of trials, joy gives us the courage to continue when we might otherwise be tempted to give up.
The Scriptures remind us of this truth:
“…Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” — Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV)
Did you see that? The joy of the Lord is not dependent on favourable circumstances. It is a divine strength that enables us to endure, serve faithfully, and move forward with confidence. As we draw strength from God’s joy, we become more capable of pursuing the purpose He has placed in our hearts. Step by step, that strength carries us toward the victories He has prepared for us.
If you are presently experiencing pain or weakness, do not lose hope. A difficult season does not have to become a permanent condition. Bring your burdens before the Lord and allow His presence to renew your heart. Lasting change begins within us. When our minds are renewed, our perspective is restored, and our hearts are strengthened by faith, we are better equipped to respond wisely and courageously to the circumstances around us.
A discouraged and defeated mindset can limit our ability to recognise opportunities and respond productively to challenges. By contrast, a heart anchored in God’s joy produces resilience, gratitude, and hope. Therefore, choose to remain cheerful, embrace the joy God provides, and trust Him for the strength to continue. Victory requires strength, and strength grows as the joy of the Lord fills the heart.
Remain joyful, remain steadfast, and remain blessed. Amen.
