“As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses around us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us.” — Hebrews 12:1 (GNB)
As you journey in your walk with God, the enemy would often attempt to establish a secret or besetting sin in your life. He does this to keep a door open in your life, giving him legal access to manipulate you. If you do not understand this tactic, you will keep indulging in that secret sin while thinking nobody sees you.
Interestingly, when you ask God for forgiveness, He will forgive you because forgiveness is a provision we have in Jesus. However, that alone will not stop the devil from returning to tempt and torment you. Remember, you gave him legal access to your life through that secret sin. Even though you are forgiven, the devil still claims legal ground. On that basis, he will accuse you before God, manipulate you, steal from you, divert your opportunities, and block good things from coming your way.
Unfortunately, Satan has kept many Christians bound with this system of secret sin. It is a tool he uses to destroy believers, and you certainly do not want that to be your lot. Therefore, I encourage you to fight that secret sin with everything you have. Stop engaging in it. The Bible says, “As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses around us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us.” — Hebrews 12:1 (GNB)
You might say, “But sir, it is not that easy.” To overcome this, you must follow the counsel of Scripture: “Sin must no longer rule in your mortal bodies, so that you obey the desires of your natural self. Nor must you surrender any part of yourselves to sin to be used for wicked purposes. Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes.” — Romans 6:12-13 (GNB). Cry out to God in prayer and declare war on that secret sin before it destroys you. If you do this genuinely, He will grant you the grace to overcome. Praise God!
