“Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea, during the time when Herod was king. Soon afterward, some men who studied the stars came from the East to Jerusalem and asked, ‘Where is the baby born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star when it came up in the east, and we have come to worship him.’” —Matthew 2:1-2 (GNT)

When I took some time to ponder the glorious birth of the Lord, I realized something I would like to share today. When Jesus was born, the Bible records that some men who studied the stars came from the East to Jerusalem asking where the child was (Matthew 2:1).

Now, the question is, why were they looking for Him? According to them, “…we saw his star when it came up in the east, and we have come to worship him” (Matthew 2:2 GNT). Did you see that?

All they wanted to do was to worship Him. When they got there, the Bible records that “they went into the house, and when they saw the child with his mother Mary, they knelt down and worshiped him. They brought out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and presented them to him” (Matthew 2:11 GNT).

When they were done worshiping, they left. But there is something I want you to take note of here: they traveled for days just to worship Jesus. They had an understanding of who He was and is, and they decided to come and worship Him. Interestingly, these men were not Christians but astrologers who had spiritual understanding of the purpose Christ came to fulfill on earth.

Now, as a believer, it is important that you understand who Jesus truly is, what He has come to do in this world, and what you are expected to do with His finished work. There are many believers today who do not have an in-depth understanding of what the Master came to do. Consequently, they are often not serious with the message of the Gospel or their relationship with Him.

They treat the finished work of Christ lightly and even say the wrong things about Christianity, which ought not to be. We must come to maturity and understand that Jesus came to this world to pay the ultimate price and restore us to God and His original plan for us.

Therefore, as you celebrate Christmas this season, remember who Jesus is, what He has come to do, and what He expects from you. Fight to strengthen your relationship with Him and build your life with His words, for He has said:

“Anyone who hears these words of mine and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain poured down, the rivers flooded over, and the wind blew hard against that house. But it did not fall, because it was built on rock.” —Matthew 7:24-25 (GNT)
