“And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it, for in its peace you will have peace.” — Jeremiah 29:7 (NKJV)
Scripture reveals God’s heart and His expectations for how we should live. In Jeremiah 29:7, God instructed the Israelites—though exiled in a foreign land—to pray for the peace of the city. Why? Because in the city’s peace, they would find their own peace. This was more than advice—it was a divine responsibility.
Likewise, as Christians today, we must understand our duty toward the city and nation in which we reside. It’s not by chance that you live where you do. You are not there merely to seek what the land can offer you, but to stand in the gap for it in prayer and peacekeeping. You are called to be a blessing to your nation.
Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth…” (Matthew 5:13). Salt preserves. That’s your role—to preserve your community through intercession and godly influence. Unfortunately, many believers have lost sight of this. They focus only on personal gain, ignoring the spiritual state of the land. But selfish pursuits never bring lasting peace. Until we begin to pray for our land and seek its welfare, we’re not walking fully in our Kingdom purpose.
When was the last time you fasted and prayed for your nation? This is a call to realign your focus. Whatever you sow in prayer for your land will return to you. In the peace of your city, you will find peace. So rise up and take your place. Seek its good. Pray for its leaders. Fulfil your responsibility. The nation you reside in is your mission field.
Today’s Rhema
As a Christian, you are ordained to preserve the earth, so be on duty—both in prayers and in every other way possible!
Confession for the Day
Today I receive insight into the life God has called me to live. I declare that in all I do, I live in the consciousness of my calling. As the salt of the earth, I preserve everywhere I find myself, and because of me, God’s favour and blessing are released in my city and in my nation, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
