“Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give you into our hands.” —1 Samuel 17:47 (NKJV)
I wanted to know in detail how David defeated Goliath of Gath, so I decided to study the story very carefully. I discovered that one of the things that helped David gain victory over the Philistine was knowledge—knowledge of God, to be precise.
Even though David was just a young boy whom everybody underestimated, he was not young in his knowledge of God. He knew God intimately, so he understood how He does things. This knowledge of God and His power helped David confront the giant without a second thought.
Because of this knowledge, David did not consider his own size or the size of the Philistine; all he knew was that the giant was defiling the army of God. In the long run, he got the victory because he knew God.
In fact, his knowledge of God and His saving power made him boast in the Lord. He said, “This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.” —1 Samuel 17:46 (NKJV).
Did you see that? That’s what I call confidence. You will agree with me that this confidence only came as a result of what David knew.
This is why Bible scholars say David defeated Goliath not only with faith but with knowledge as well. For days, the Philistines threatened the Israelites, but in less than an hour, what posed a huge problem for the nation came to an end—all because a young boy knew God.
Beloved, the same thing applies today. The challenges right in front of you and threatening your peace can come to an end in a few minutes or days. All that is required of you is to know the Lord. A man of God once said, “You are just a revelation away from your solution.” In other words, one revelation about God can make all the difference you require.
Therefore, get to work. Make a conscious decision to develop a passion for God and to know Him more. The more you know God, the more you discover who you are; and the more you discover who you are, the more you will excel in all things with less struggle.
When there is knowledge, struggle reduces. Desire to know Him more and watch your life turn around for good. Remember, the Bible records that “…the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” —Daniel 11:32 (KJV).
