“…ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, to him who knocks it will be opened…” —Matthew 7:7-8 (NKJV)

If I should ask you the question above one on one, I am so sure your answer will be God, but have you ever thought of the fact that every time you needed help, it was easier for you to run to man than to God? I know this might come as a shock to you, but just think about it. The last time you desperately needed something, who did you ask first? Was it God or man? Not everyone will have the same answer, though, but I discovered that there is something in us that always craves to go to man first for help rather than to God. It always makes us see running to men as a better and faster option than running to God. It gives us the mindset that man will help you faster than God will help you. But guess what? Is it really true? Is man’s help a better and  faster option? The answer is a big NO. The Bible says “…cursed is the man who trust in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord for he shall be like a shrub in the desert and shall not see when good comes…” Jeremiah 17:5- 6 (NKJV). Did you see that?

Even if you get that help as fast as you must have wanted it, it doesn’t make it a better and faster option because, in the long run, it makes you more dependent on men than on God. Having to go to man first because you feel it is faster and better, is only the trick of the devil to make you put your faith in men rather than in God. But if you must change this, you have to learn to go to God first and do it in faith. It is a discipline you have to give yourself to enable you to overcome the urge to run to men first. At least approach God first, hear from Him, and follow His direction. Most times, all it takes is one instruction or a direction from the Lord, and you are satisfied with your heart’s desires. So, as you journey in your walk with God this season, make a conscious decision to always approach God before approaching men. Praise God!

Confession for the Day

Father, I am grateful for this timely counsel. I choose this day to always come to you first and as I do this often, I receive guidance, instructions, and direction that will bring the desires of my heart to manifestation in the name of Jesus. Amen!
