“They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshipped it and sacrificed to it, and said, ‘This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!’”
— Exodus 32:8 (NKJV)
When Moses ascended Mount Sinai to commune with the Lord, the Israelites grew impatient. Instead of waiting for his return, they convinced Aaron to craft a god they could worship. Aaron, succumbing to their pressure, took the gold jewelry they had plundered from Egypt and made a golden calf. Tragically, they bowed before it, offered sacrifices, and even proclaimed, “This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!” (Exodus 32:8 NKJV).
It’s baffling—were they blind to the truth or deliberately spiting God? This scenario mirrors the actions of many believers today, who, knowingly or unknowingly, withhold the glory due to God and give it to others. Some worship their achievements, possessions, or even the very blessings they prayed for. But is this what God desires from His children? Certainly not.
Beloved, you must consciously give God the glory He alone deserves. Acknowledge His hand in every victory and breakthrough, no matter the earthly channels He used. For instance, if you’ve prayed for a job and God connects you with someone who helps you secure it, remember: God is the source, and the person is merely the channel. The glory belongs to God alone.
Furthermore, never allow the blessings you receive to replace God in your heart. Don’t let a job, a relationship, or success hinder your worship or diminish your devotion to Him. By keeping your focus on God as your source, you position yourself to receive more of His grace, favor, and faithfulness.
