Wishing Well With Wooden Bucket On A Barren Landscape

“…He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, “Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land…” Genesis 26:22 (NIV)

The preceding verses before our opening text give us the story of how Isaac dug for water and when water came, the herders in his time quarreled over the water that was found. Now, one would expect that Isaac, will stand his ground and give to them a piece of his mind, but he didn’t do that. Instead, the Bible recorded that Isaac “…moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it…” Genesis 26:22 (NKJV). Did you see that? He left the one that they were quarreling over and dug another well and eventually they found water in the new well which no one quarreled over and he named it Rehoboth. He had the right attitude and because he choose to move on and dig another well, he was able to a well, he could call his own.

Beloved, you must understand that before you finally settle down with the blessings God has planned for you, there will be contentions from people. Sometimes, it could be your colleagues, friends, neighbors, or even family members who would set themselves to contend with that which God has rightfully given to you, but you see, when such contentions and arguments come up, refuse to argue with them. Refuse to start exchanging words with them, just move on with your life and dig another well. Now, someone might say but should I just allow them to oppress me like that without fighting back? Well, you are supposed to fight back but you don’t have to do it physically or carnally which is the usual response of God’s people. But you see, fighting back with words will not change anything. Showing that you are also smart or can defend yourself will also not do much. What will bring forth a change is when you choose to handle that matter in prayer. Until you pray over certain matters, you can never prevail. Therefore, instead of trying to argue with people, handle the matter in prayer and go and dig another well. Trust me, when you do this, you will enjoy peace and victory like never before. Praise God!

Today’s Rhema

Instead of arguing or fighting with people who are contending for what rightly belongs to you, move on with your life and dig another well!

Confession for the Day

Father, I am truly grateful for this eye-opening message. I choose this day, therefore, to avoid arguments and contentions that are not necessary. I choose to move on with my life and dig another well. And as I do this, I am finding that which I am looking for in the name of Jesus. Amen!
