“…therefore, as the elect of God, Holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another…” Colossians 3:12-13 (NKJV)
As a Christian, have your beliefs affected your character and attitude? Are you kind and merciful to others? Are you humble or filled with pride? Are you able to make corrections when rebuked? The answer to these questions, speaks of where you are in your Christian walk. For so many people, they are still where they were when they received Jesus into their lives. They still possess those old characters and behaviors that they had before they came to Christ and when you see them, you wonder if they have truly received Christ because their attitude and character are far from what the Bible speaks about. So, I ask you the question again. Have your Christian beliefs influenced your character and attitude? I want you to be sincere about this. Have your Christian beliefs influenced the way you talk and perceive matters? Do you show mercy to people who offend you? Do you speak to people with love and respect, irrespective of their financial or societal status?
Beloved, you must take a moment to throw the searchlight on yourself from time to time because it will help you to effect the necessary change that is needed in your life. Whether you like it or not, Christianity should reflect in your lifestyle. If you are still full of pride, bitterness and unforgiveness, then you haven’t embraced the Christian beliefs. If you are still easily offended and find it difficult to let go, you are just a Christian who is still very much in the world. However, you must remember that God does not want you to be a worldly Christian. He wants you to be a good representative of the Gospel of Christ. And to make that happen, you have to yield to the instructions given to us in the scriptures.
You must follow what the scripture says because the scripture is clear on how we should behave and conduct ourselves. For example, in our opening text, it says as elect of God, Holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another…” Colossians 3:12-13 (NKJV). The question is, when you go through scriptures like this what comes to your mind? Do you speed-read it, or let it become a part of you? Therefore, I admonish you today to do the needful. Be merciful, kind and filled with humility. Praise God!
