Beware of Spiritual Slumber

“One night, when everyone was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.” (Matthew 13:25 GNT)

One thing you must avoid as a child of God is spiritual slumber. The reason is that this is what the enemy takes advantage of, using it to attack you in many different ways that you might never think possible. He has used this to destroy many lives and afflict destinies, yet many still do not recognize that the reason they are going through some of the situations they find themselves in is because of spiritual slumber.

As a child of God, If you do not want the enemy to take advantage of you or manipulate you in any area of your life, you must choose to be spiritually alert. This way, anytime the devil is trying to find an access point in your life to manipulate you, he won’t find one.

Jesus told a parable and said, “…the Kingdom of heaven is like this. A man sowed good seed in his field. One night, when everyone was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. When the plants grew and the heads of grain began to form, then the weeds showed up. The man’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, it was good seed you sowed in your field; where did the weeds come from?’ ‘It was some enemy who did this…’” (Matthew 13:24-28 GNT). How, you might ask, was this destructive work done? It was done when people were asleep.

Now, this speaks of physical sleep, but the spiritual truth remains: every time you give in to spiritual slumber, you are effectively sleeping. The devil takes advantage of this state and sows a seed into your life which will later grow and become a weed, causing trouble. So, to avoid such manipulations, you must become spiritually alert. “Pray on every occasion, as the Spirit leads. …keep alert and pray always…” (Ephesians 6:18 GNT), so that you do not fall into temptation (Matthew 26:41). Father, I am grateful for this wonderful teaching. I receive grace to be spiritually alert, and I reject spiritual slumber in all its forms, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
