“But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” —Matthew 12:36-37 (NKJV)

Something I have seen a lot amongst many believers is that they are not mindful of the kind of language they use. Some still use wrong words and speak carelessly. This is not how it is supposed to be.

When I newly became a Christian, I began to eliminate certain language from my mouth. Even some slang became ugly to me, so I eradicated it because I didn’t want to sound worldly. This is what you should also do. As a believer, there is a way God wants you to talk. He doesn’t want you speaking carelessly or using the horrible language of the world. He wants you to be a good representative of the kingdom, not just in your attitude but also in your words. Your language should communicate kingdom life, not worldly life. Your language should edify, not corrupt people’s minds.

It is important you carefully consider these things, because they matter. The Bible says, “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment” (Matthew 12:36, NKJV). When you see a scripture like this, do you take it seriously? Remember, the Bible, which encourages us to choose our words wisely, will not be careless with the words it speaks to us.

The Bible also says, “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers” (Ephesians 4:29, NKJV). Therefore, begin today to eliminate certain language from your mouth. A true sign of Christian maturity is the things you say. If you want to be great, choose your words wisely and live a polished Christian life; you are an ambassador of the kingdom.

If you want to be great, eliminate vulgar language from your mouth and choose your words wisely!

Confession for the Day

I know who I am and whose I am. I choose to use the right language and refuse to talk carelessly. I choose to speak with grace and refuse to utter idle words. I choose to edify people with my words and refuse to offend people with my words. Hallelujah!
