“Human anger does not achieve God’s righteous purpose.” (James 1:20 GNT)
Recently, I came across a heartbreaking story of a woman who accidentally killed her maid in a fit of uncontrollable anger. What triggered this tragedy? She found the maid watching television with her children. In her rage, she struck the maid in the wrong place, leading to a fatal outcome. Now, this woman faces many years in prison because she couldn’t control her anger. Sadly, this is just one of many stories where rage has wreaked havoc on lives.
Countless people today bear the consequences of unchecked anger. Some have ended up in prison, while others carry the burden of broken relationships, shattered marriages, or ruined careers. Rage has destroyed families, strained friendships, and even disrupted entire organizations. As believers, one of the most important disciplines we can cultivate is learning to avoid rage at all costs.
The Bible clearly states: “Human anger does not achieve God’s righteous purpose.” (James 1:20 GNT). In other words, uncontrolled anger will never lead to a godly outcome; it only brings harm. To avoid the pitfalls of rage, we must make a conscious decision to practice self-control.
Admittedly, people can be frustrating at times. But this is precisely where the fruit of the Spirit—self-control—comes into play. No matter how hurtful or provoking someone’s actions may be, we must strive to let go of offences. Holding onto anger only magnifies the hurt in your heart, ultimately leading to harmful actions or words. But is this the life God has called us to live? Absolutely not!
Instead, God calls us to rise above offences and let them go. Choosing to forgive and overlook shortcomings is not a sign of weakness but a display of wisdom and maturity. Letting go demonstrates that you trust God to handle the situation. Remember, no matter how anointed or powerful you are, if you haven’t mastered self-control, you are vulnerable to the destruction rage can bring.
So, walk in wisdom. Make the conscious effort to avoid rage and cultivate a heart of peace. Let God’s love guide your actions and keep you in alignment with His righteous purpose.
