“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” —John 15:4 (NKJV)

Having established in the first part of this article the importance of drawing closer to Jesus every day, someone might ask, “But is this necessary?” Oh yes, it is very important. Jesus said, “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” —John 15:4 (NKJV) Did you see that?

If you truly want to bear fruit, you have to abide. In other words, you have to spend every day of your life engaging yourself in the things that concern Jesus and the kingdom. When you do, you will surely bear fruit and be set apart from everyone else.

Unfortunately, that is not the case for many believers today. They abide more in the world than in Christ. They engage more with the things of this world than with the things of God. They enjoy more of the things of this world than the things of God. This is why many people find it difficult to study the Word of God for one hour, but they can stay on social media for two hours without getting tired. This is why they can spend all night in a club, but find it difficult to spend all night in the presence of God.

Interestingly, some of them have concluded that this is simply how they were built, but that is not true. It is how they have trained themselves over the years. They trained themselves to love the things of the world without understanding that those things have no gain. They only give Satan legal access to manipulate men.

However, the right thing to do is to unlearn that way of life and begin to train yourself to love God, His kingdom, and His righteousness, knowing very well that friendship with the world is enmity with God. James 4:4 warns plainly about this.

So, I admonish you today to take this counsel seriously and invest in your relationship with Jesus daily. Let each day draw you closer to Him and not farther away from Him. Be deliberate about your day-to-day activities; they will determine whether you get closer to Him or farther away from Him. But be assured that if you work on your relationship with Jesus daily, your life will not remain the same, for He Himself has said, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” —John 15:7 (NKJV)

Today’s Rhema

If you work on your relationship with Jesus daily, your life will be full of the glory of God!

Confession for the Day

Thank You, Father, for revealing this wonderful truth to me. I choose this day to invest daily in my relationship with You, and as I do, I am bearing fruit in all areas of my life and making real progress in my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
