“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” —1 Peter 1:3 (NKJV)
As a Christian, do you know that you have been born again to a living hope? Do you know that through the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, you have hope both in this world and in the world to come? If you do not know, I am telling you now. The finished work of Jesus Christ brought hope to mankind.
Before Jesus came, the world was in darkness, and man had no hope of eternity because Adam’s disobedience brought death into the human race. Scripture says that death reigned through the one man’s offense, but it also shows that Jesus Christ changed that reality by bringing life and hope to mankind.
That is why you must not live in fear of what lies ahead. There are people who fear the future because they do not understand what Christ has done, and there are others who are outside of Christ and have no sure hope at all. But you, who are in Christ Jesus, must refuse to live like that, because you were born into a living hope. Your hope is real, and that hope is Christ Jesus Himself.
Peter goes on to say that this hope includes an inheritance that is “incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away,” reserved in heaven for you. That is not a pretentious hope. That is living hope, and your responsibility is to believe it and let it shape the way you live.
Live every day of your life conscious of the fact that you were born into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Praise God!
