“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds.” — Ephesians 4:22-23 (NIV)

In this passage, we see a clear distinction between the “old man” and the “new man.” The old man represents the sinful nature, while the new man represents the transformed life that begins when we accept Jesus as Lord. When we receive Jesus, our spiritual status changes, but our minds remain unaffected unless we actively work on renewing them through God’s Word.

Many underestimate the importance of renewing their minds, forgetting that transformation of character depends on it. A person’s mind is their greatest asset, and the victories, growth, and freedom they experience in life are greatly influenced by their thoughts and perspectives. Without a renewed mind, a person is prone to missteps and unproductive behavior. That’s why 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) reminds us, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Our thoughts shape who we are. If we focus on right and godly thoughts, our character reflects this, impacting how we interact with others. A person with a mindset of integrity will act with integrity, and one with a heart full of love will spread that love in every relationship. To be transformed, we must immerse ourselves in God’s Word because only His Word has the power to renew and reshape our minds. The world changes one mind at a time through the Word of God, so let the Word work in you!

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the power of Your Word, which fills my mind and shapes my thoughts. Your Word helps me think, speak, and act in line with Your will. I declare that I will continue to lean on Your Word to bring out the perfect version of me. Amen!
