“…While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell facedown and begged Him, “Lord, if You are willing, you can make me clean…” Luke 5:12 (NKJV)

Many years ago, I gave someone a copy of the Reflections devotional. Immediately he opened it, the first article he saw was on praying to God. So, he said “if everybody is praying to God won’t that be too much of a disturbance?” Then he said, “I am of the opinion that praying to God is a disturbance to Him, we must learn to do things ourselves”. On hearing this, I was shocked. I had never heard this before in my life. But I realized that there were many others also who might share the same sentiment. Beloved, one of the things you must settle in your walk with God is that praying to God is never a disturbance but an act of worship and fellowship. The challenge is that so many people have gotten this whole idea of prayer wrong to the point that it has even affected their relationship with the father.

However, it is important you understand the purpose of prayers so that you can know how to benefit from it. The primary purpose of prayer is not to ask God for anything. Sadly, this is where many have gotten it wrong. The primary purpose of prayer is to worship and fellowship with your maker. And this fellowship is important to God because that is one of the reasons you were created. God loves it when you have fellowship with Him. That’s why you see that in the beginning, God will come to the garden to have fellowship with Adam. However, when Adam fell that ended but our Lord Jesus restored that through His finished work. Now, God wants us to have fellowship with Him on a daily basis, and one of the ways to do that is through prayers and we see that in the life of our Lord Jesus Christ. On one occasion the Bible recorded that “…He went out to the mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to God…” Luke 6:12 (NKJV). Now, do you think, all that time He spent there, He was making requests? Certainly not, He was having fellowship with His Father, and this is how we ought to live our lives as well. So, the next time to go to God in prayer, have this understanding. Always remember that prayer is first fellowship before anything else.

Today’s Rhema

Prayer is not disturbance but worship and fellowship!

Confession for the Day

Thank you, heavenly father, for setting the record straight about prayers. I declare that every wrong idea or notion about prayers today has been altered and by the power of the Holy Ghost I embrace the new perspective on prayers. I will no longer pray with the intention to receive answers alone but with the intention to commune with God and have a good time with Him in Jesus name. Amen!
