“…and he said, “let Me go, for the day breaks” But he said, I will not let You go unless You bless me!” So He said to Him, “what is your name?” He said, Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel….” —Genesis 32:25-28 (NKJV)

Having established the importance and sensitivity of names, it matters the name you are called. Someone might say, what has name got to do with destiny issues? Well, it has a lot to do with it, whether you like it or not. Usually, there are people who do not think that names can affect the outcome of a man’s life, but trust me, they do. You must understand that the name they call you goes a long way to determining how your life will go, so what are you called, or what do you call yourself? Stop thinking it doesn’t matter, because it does. Our Father of Faith, Papa Abraham, was without children for a long time when he was still called Abram (Exalted). But the moment God changed his name from Abram to Abraham, everything changed. He became the father of many, and today Abraham’s kids are everywhere.

Sometimes, all it takes for things to turn around for you is your name. If you can change that name, you can change everything. So again, I ask you, What is your name? Some people over the years changed their names and gave themselves some terrible nicknames, which have affected them a great deal in their lives, while some families start answering names that make no sense at all, and the reason they do this is because they do not attach any importance to names. But you see, as a child of God, you must take this issue of names very seriously because names are powerful. Remember, it is never too late. Your case may be different. If you already have a name that brings a blessing to your life and channels your life in the right direction, then go ahead and magnify that name. But if your name right now does not bring you a blessing or channel your life in the right direction, then I would encourage you to consider changing your name so that you can change your future. God bless you!

Confession for the Day

Dear heavenly father, I thank you for the transformation your word brings to me every day; I thank you for naming me the name of your son, Jesus Christ; and I declare that no evil name will be given to me in any way in the name of Jesus. Amen!
