I will climb my watchtower and wait to see what the Lord will tell me to say and what answer he will give to my complaint. (Habakkuk 2:1 GNT)
Having established in the first part of this article the importance of hearing God and knowing what He wants you to do at any given time, you might ask: How do I cultivate the kind of relationship that allows me to hear God clearly and discern His direction for my life? Well, it’s straightforward!
The first thing you must do is acknowledge the fundamental truth that God speaks, because this is where it all begins.
There are people today who genuinely do not believe that God still speaks. I remember, years ago, I went to meet a man whom God prompted me to speak to concerning his salvation. I told him, “God sent me to you to tell you a few things.” To my surprise, he began to laugh heartily and retorted, “Which God spoke to you? If God spoke to you, why is your life still like this?” He thoroughly mocked me that day and concluded by stating, “God doesn’t speak to people any longer. He did that in Bible days, but He doesn’t speak anymore.” I was shocked. I delivered God’s message to him anyway, but I was amazed that such disbelief still exists. Unfortunately, there are even believers today who think God doesn’t speak anymore. So, the first step is crucial: you must firmly believe that God still speaks today.
The second, and perhaps most important, step is to give God your focused attention. This is the absolute key to hearing what God says. Many believers today don’t make time for God or for things concerning Him. They give attention to almost everything else except God. When you function like this, you simply cannot hear what God is trying to say to you. Remember, before God could speak directly to Moses, He first had to capture his attention through the burning bush encounter (Exodus 3:1-17).
Beloved, unless you deliberately give God your attention, you will struggle to hear His voice or receive clear direction from Him. So, I strongly encourage you today: give God your attention. How? Primarily by giving attention to His Word. Spend quality time studying the Word. Additionally, dedicate time to fasting and praying in the Spirit. Consistently practicing these disciplines will open you up to God’s communications, and your life will inevitably change for the better.

Confession for the day
Father, I am grateful for this wonderful teaching. I receive grace to wholeheartedly give You my attention, and as I do so, Your voice is becoming clearer to me, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
