“But the king answered, ‘No, I will pay you for it. I will not offer to the Lord my God sacrifices that have cost me nothing.’ And he bought the threshing place and the oxen for fifty pieces of silver.” — 2 Samuel 24:24 (GNT)

Over the years, I have encountered men and women who say they want to serve the Lord and follow Him, but only when they are comfortable. I remember, years ago as a young believer, I had a friend who once told me he wanted to make money first before he could serve the Lord. When I asked him why, he said, “Serving the Lord can’t really give me the kind of money I’m looking for.” So he wanted to chase money first. Sadly, he never got to serve the Lord as he intended. The wealth he pursued never came as expected, and his life ended before he ever lived it for God.

That story taught me a powerful lesson I want to share with you: you cannot truly walk with God or serve Him from a place of comfort. Comfort resists sacrifice. Comfort discourages inconvenience. And as long as you allow comfort to dictate your choices, you will always delay or avoid giving your best to God.

Child of God, it’s the sacrifices you make that God blesses, not the comfort zones you cling to. This is something my friend never realized. He didn’t understand that the life God gave him was meant to be used in service and honor to God—not just in the pursuit of wealth. Instead of offering his life to the Lord, he chased riches and never got the chance to live that life fully for God.

The Bible says, “I will not offer to the Lord my God sacrifices that have cost me nothing.” (2 Samuel 24:24). King David understood something profound: real worship and real service require sacrifice. Not token gestures. Not convenient offerings. But costly commitment.

So I encourage you today: step out of your comfort zone. Stop waiting for a convenient time to serve the Lord. Choose this day to honor God with your time, resources, and life—even when it costs you something. Because in the eyes of God, it is sacrifice that carries weight and brings reward.

Today’s Rhema

Serving the Lord can only be done from a place of sacrifice and not comfort!

Confession for the Day

Father, I am grateful for this wonderful truth You have brought to me today. I receive the grace and wisdom to make the necessary sacrifices for You—now and all the days of my life. I refuse to be held back by comfort. I choose to live fully for You in Jesus’ name. Amen!
