“…then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart…” Luke 18:1 (NKJV)
Many years ago, I heard the testimony of a man of God who spent hours in the place of prayer and I began to wonder how he was able to do it. So I tried to see if I could do the same but I discovered that I couldn’t. I sincerely desired to stay longer but after one hour, I just got tired. So I began to pray concerning this and in the long run, the more I prayed, the more I was able to stay much longer but that was because I kept on training myself to do this. And today, by the grace of God, I am able to spend hours in prayers and I am reaping the benefits of it. Now, I didn’t say this to try to brag, I only said this, to try to explain to you the need to train yourself to spend more time in the place of prayers because it helps to strengthen your walk with God, open your mind to possibilities and establish you in God’s will for your life.
Sadly some people don’t really see the need to spend time in prayers. Their idea of prayers is just a five- or ten-minute thing, and they are done. But you see, you must learn to go beyond that. You must try to pray for at least one hour on a regular basis and from there you increase it. If you truly want to enjoy your walk with God and experience certain dimensions of God that are not easily accessible by all, then you must make a conscious decision to train yourself in this area and grow in it. Our Lord Jesus Christ was a perfect example. We see from the scriptures, how He often sneaked out to go and spend time with God in prayers. He understood that prayer was more than just making requests but having fellowship with God the father. So He did this always. On one occasion the Bible says, “…He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God…” Luke 6:12 (NKJV). In Matthew 14:22, the bible also recorded that “when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there” meaning that He prayed until it was evening. This was the kind of prayer life that the master had and today He expects us to cultivate the same because it is essential for our spiritual growth and walk with the father. Therefore, consider this truth today and make up your mind to start training yourself to tarry in the place of prayer. At first, it might not look easy but as you continue spending time, grace will be granted you and you will find yourself spending hours communing with God, shifting atmospheres, and fixing other people’s lives. Halleluiah!

The grace to spend time in prayers is mightily at work in me, therefore I declare that I am taking long strides in the realm of the spirit. I don’t get tired or quit because the energy of the Spirit of God is my strength and His inspiration is my enthusiasm in Jesus’ name. Amen!
