“…but let him ask in faith with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord. He is a double minded man, unstable in all his ways…”—James 1:6-7 (NKJV)

Having established the importance of avoiding doubt or double-mindedness, you must understand that this is not a good place to be in your Christian walk. For some people, this may not look like a serious issue but the truth remains that, as long as you are there in your mind, everything that has to do with the supernatural shuts down, because the supernatural only takes place when there is faith and not doubt. Now, you might say but what if am always in church? Well, even if you are always in church physically or a pastor lays his hands on you, nothing will work because the Bible records in our opening text that “…he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord. He is a double minded man, unstable in all his ways…” —James 1:6–7 (NKJV). Did you see that?

Double-mindedness is costly; therefore, you must avoid it so that your faith can be alive and effective enough to produce the results that you desire. Now, you might say, but how do I deal with this issue in my life? Well, it is simple! You just need to build your faith daily, and the way to do that is to expose yourself to the studies, teaching, and preaching of the word of God, because this is the tool that God has given us to build our faith. In the book of Romans 10:17, the Bible says, “…faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God…” meaning that if you deliberately continue to hear the word of God and study the might works of God, you will surely be strong in faith, giving glory to God. But if you keep exposing yourself to circular contents, you will starve your faith and grow your doubt and trust me, this is where the devil begins to put thoughts in your mind that are easy to believe. However, as a child of God, you must make a conscious decision to deliberately give yourself to God’s word and there is nothing the devil will try to do to you that will get through to you. Praise God!

Confession for the Day

Glorious father, I thank you for helping me understand the cost of double mindedness. No matter what happens in my life, I refuse to give in to doubt or worry because I know that only faith can pull me out challenges and establish me. Therefore, I choose to operate in strong faith, now and all the days of my life, in Jesus name. Amen!
