What shall we say, then? Should we continue to live in sin so that God’s grace will increase? —Romans 6:1 (GNT)
Having established the reasons why you should not live in sin in part one, you must realize that taking this counsel seriously can completely transform your Christian walk. Many believers today do not take this seriously, attempting to live in Christ while remaining in sin, and then wondering why they lack the results the Bible promises. They question why their prayers are not producing the desired outcomes.
You cannot live in sin and expect to walk in the miraculous at the same time.
If you want your prayers to become potent and powerful, you must make the decision to stay away from sin. If you desire to see the power of God move mightily in your situation, avoiding a sinful lifestyle is essential. Sin short-circuits the power of God in your life and grants Satan the legal ground to afflict you and complicate your circumstances.
This is dangerous because when you try to pray against the works of darkness, your prayers may not work. You cannot cast out of your life what you have already given permission to remain. It is impossible to effectively rebuke darkness when you are living there through disobedience.
If you truly want to get rid of the works of darkness, you must first come out of that darkness through obedience and submission to the Word of God. Once you are positioned in the light, it becomes easy to command those dark activities to cease in your life. Sadly, many believers are living in darkness through sin while expecting to rebuke it and get rid of it.
Put to death, therefore, the earthly desires at work in you, such as sexual immorality, indecency, lust, evil passions, and greed (for greed is a form of idolatry). Because of such things God’s anger will come upon those who do not obey him. At one time you yourselves used to live according to such desires, when your life was dominated by them. But now you must get rid of all these things: anger, passion, and hateful feelings. No insults or obscene talk must ever come from your lips. Do not lie to one another, for you have put off the old self with its habits and have put on the new self. This is the new being which God, its Creator, is constantly renewing in his own image, in order to bring you to a full knowledge of himself. —Colossians 3:5-10 (GNT)
