“…..but also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness….”2 Peter 1:5-6 (NKJV)
When we take a look at our opening text, we see that there are few things we are supposed to add to our faith, and one of those things is self-control. Now, the reason we have been asked to add self control to our faith is because faith itself cannot stand on its own. If your faith is going to be effective, you must take the extra effort to add this virtue of self control to your faith.
When you are able to add self control to your faith walk, you will not be a Christian with a weak or toxic emotion. You will not be a Christian who is ruled by his or her emotion but one who is in charge of his or her emotion. Today, you find that there are many of God’s people who have been emotionally wounded because they allowed it. Some have done unimaginable things because they couldn’t control their emotions. While, a lot others have slided into depression because their emotions took the lead. But this is not God’s plan for your life.
God’s plan is that no matter what you face or go through. No matter the news you hear or who hurt you, you should be able to take charge and keep your emotions under control. You might say, “I don’t think I can do that”, well you should because applying self control is part the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 says, “….but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…”So, if you are unable to take control of your emotions, it means you are not giving the Holy Spirit the opportunity to bear the right fruit through you and the truth is that, if you can’t control your emotions, you are already walking in the flesh and this is not in your best interest. Therefore, be encouraged to bring your emotion under control and be in charge. Hallelujah!
Today’s Rhema
If you can’t control your emotions, you are already walking in the flesh and this is not in your best interest!
