A Woman’s Faith – Reaching for the Hem of Christ

And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour. —Matthew 9:20–22 (NKJV).

Before you go to God in prayer, what do you say to yourself? When you face a crisis or stand at a crossroads, the inner words you speak matter greatly. What you tell yourself in those moments often shapes your outcome. If you habitually say the wrong things, your results will likely reflect that voice.

Our opening text tells the story of the woman with the issue of blood. She had suffered twelve years, but when she heard about Jesus she decided to touch the hem of His garment. Why? Because she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” Her faith was active before she acted—by the time she touched Jesus’ garment, she had already declared her expectation. The touch simply completed what her heart had already decided.

You can receive the desires of your heart—much depends on what you are saying to yourself. Too often God’s people negate their own prayers by speaking defeat in advance: “This might not work,” or “It’s just another service,” or “Nothing will change.” Those repeated internal statements shape expectation and outcome without most people even noticing.

This must stop. If you want a new testimony, start by changing your inner dialogue. Be deliberate about the words you say to yourself. Victory often begins with a single sentence you repeat in faith. Make that sentence true for you, and watch how your story changes. Praise God!

Confession for the Day

Father, I thank You for opening my eyes to this truth. I choose today to become mindful of what I say to myself, and as I do, the outcome of my life changes drastically in Jesus’ name. Amen!
