“Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart…” — Psalms 32:11 (NKJV)
One of the most common reactions to difficult moments in life is sadness. Many people wear long faces, weighed down by their burdens, feeling there’s no reason to smile, let alone laugh. But beloved, this is not how God wants you to respond to the challenges of life. He doesn’t want you to sink into despair—He wants you to respond with joy and laughter. Why? Because joy is a powerful expression of faith, and laughter in the face of trouble is an act of victory.
Feeling sad won’t change the situation. In fact, it often makes things worse. But when you choose joy, you shift your perspective from defeat to dominion. When you laugh in the face of adversity, you’re sending a message to that situation: You don’t control me—I have the victory in Christ Jesus!
You may ask, “What does laughter have to do with what I’m going through?” The answer is—everything. Laughter in tough times isn’t denial; it’s defiance. It’s you refusing to let the enemy steal your joy. The moment you laugh, you disarm the weight of that burden. And if you don’t laugh it off, you risk getting swallowed up by it.
So I urge you today: laugh at that challenge. Rejoice in the Lord. Let joy rise from within. And once you’ve done that, “do not fret or have anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God’s peace…shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6–7 AMPC)

When you laugh in the midst of pressure, you are exercising authority over that challenge and depriving it the right to rule over you!
