“I am telling you the truth: he who believes has eternal life.” —John 6:47 (GNT)
One of the most profound statements Jesus made is the one we just read in our opening text. Beloved, as long as you believe in Him and His finished work, and have invited Him into your life, you have eternal life. Someone might ask, “What is the big deal about this?” Well, it is not just a big deal; it is something to shout about.
First, it means that you have the life of God in you, which is superior to sickness, disease, and affliction. Because you have eternal life, you have an advantage over sickness. The life you have received is a disease-killing life.
Secondly, when the Master said that he who believes has eternal life, it means that you have eternal security. Your name is written in the Book of Life. When you leave this world, your eternal destination is sure. Today, many people have no confidence in where they are going when they leave this world.
If you ask them where they are going, they will tell you they are not sure. But for us in Christ Jesus, it is not a mystery. We know that we are going back to God because our names are written in the Book of Life and we have His life in us.
In the Book of Revelation, John said:
“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” —Revelation 20:11-15 (NKJV)
Did you see that? We could go on and on about the importance of that statement. However, I encourage you to rejoice because you have eternal life. Celebrate this gift every day because this life is your insurance in this world and in the life to come. Hallelujah!
