“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” —Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV)
Still on the subject of breaking the limitations of the mind, we now look at the story of Gideon and the angel. This account shows how heaven saw Gideon differently from how Gideon saw himself. God viewed him as a mighty warrior called to deliver Israel, while Gideon measured himself by his clan and circumstances. That contrast reveals the work God’s Word must do in our thinking.
Here is the conversation:
“Gideon said to Him, ‘O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.’ Then the Lord turned to him and said, ‘Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?’ Gideon said to Him, ‘O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.’ And the Lord said to him, ‘Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.’” —Judges 6:13–16 (NKJV)
Did you see that? Gideon described himself as the least in his father’s house and from the weakest clan in Manasseh, while God addressed him as a mighty man of valor. God was seeing a deliverer; Gideon was seeing defeat. God’s Word exists to change that vision—to renew our minds so we begin to think and act as He does, not as our circumstances would have us think.
So renew your mind with God’s Word today and break free from every limitation of the mind. When Scripture reshapes the way you see yourself and your situation, you begin to operate from God’s perspective and walk in the authority He intends for you. Hallelujah!
