Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners! Purify your hearts, you hypocrites! (James 4:8 GNT)
When James, the servant of God, was admonishing the early church, he made a profound statement which I would like to bring to your notice. He said, “…Purify your hearts…” (James 4:8 GNT). He said this many years ago, but today that command still remains relevant. Why? Because there is a great need for your heart to be free of impurities.
Now, when we talk about impurities in the heart, we are talking about things that corrupt or pollute the heart. Examples of such things are bitterness, envy, jealousy, resentment, malice, unclean thoughts, and many more. When you allow these things to fester in your heart, they will pollute you and ultimately determine your overall outcome in life. It is for this reason our Lord Jesus Christ said, It is what comes out of you that makes you unclean. For from the inside, from your heart, come the evil ideas which lead you to do immoral things, to rob, kill, commit adultery, be greedy, and do all sorts of evil things; deceit, indecency, jealousy, slander, pride, and folly—all these evil things come from inside you and make you unclean. (Mark 7:20-23 GNT). Did you see that?
So, I encourage you to purify your heart by actively avoiding these things that have been listed above. Avoid them, and your heart will remain clean. If any of them are currently residing in your heart, get rid of them quickly before they cause further damage. You might say, “But what’s the big deal?” The big deal is that when your heart is purified, you will produce better results and be fruitful in all things. That is why it is written, Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. (Proverbs 4:23 MSG). Hallelujah!

Father, I thank you for teaching me Your Word. I choose this day to keep my heart purified, and as I do this, I am bearing the right fruit now and all the days of my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
