“…a fool vents all His feelings but a wise man holds them back…” Proverbs 29:11 (NKJV)

As you journey in your Christian walk, it is important to understand that anger is something that will always be a part of your life, but you are not to allow it control you. You will certainly experience situations that will work you up, but this is where you are expected to have some control and rule over your anger and not vice versa. The Bible in our opening scripture, says “…a fool vents all His feelings but a wise man holds them back…” Proverbs 29:11 (NKJV). Now, who is a wise man? It is one who is able to look beyond the emotions and put his anger under control. At every point, you must be conscious of your new nature in Christ Jesus. Learn to apply self-control in all situations. It is one of the fruits of the spirit for the Bible says the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such, there is no law. (Galatians 5:25)

So having self-control is one of the things that the Spirit of God will do in you. Therefore, lean on the Spirit of God and mount guard over your anger. It will keep you from troubles and make you a better person which is God’s original plan for you. Someone might say but sir, when I am angry, I have to express it because that is how I can feel better. Well, there are many like this who in a bid to express their anger so that they can feel better, they have committed a lot of havoc. Many have ended up in jail and destroyed their future because they were trying to express their anger. You must understand that, as believers, we are to control our anger and not express it. There is nothing godly about the expression of anger, in fact the Bible says, “…human anger does not achieve God’s righteous purpose…” James 1:20 (GNT). Did you see that? So, be encouraged to learn how to manage your anger. You can express your displeasure quite alright but don’t let it take over you because that is where it gets dangerous. Apply self-control and you will rule over your anger. Praise God!
