So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. And the people kept shouting, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died. —Acts 12:21-23 (NKJV)

In the first part of this article, we established the importance of giving God all the glory for our accomplishments because He truly deserves it. Sometimes, I wonder why people think they can achieve certain feats without God. I have heard people say things like, “You don’t need God to succeed,” citing examples of people who have succeeded without Him.

But the truth remains that any success without God will not last. Besides, what man calls success is not what God calls success. People look at the outward appearance of things and call someone successful, but God looks at the spiritual state of a person and their heart before concluding if they are truly a success.

For example, a man who has money but does not have Christ in his life may look successful to the world. To God, however, he is not, because he is like a tree without roots. If that man dies today, he will leave those riches behind and end up in hell. Do you see that success according to men is not success according to God?

Therefore, as you journey in your walk with God, you must acknowledge Him and His role in your life. It is important that you have Jesus in your life and, above all, learn to give Him the glory He deserves. Do not make the mistake of thinking that you arrived where you are today by your own strength or hard work.

King Nebuchadnezzar made the same mistake, and the Bible records the consequences:

The king spoke, saying, “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?” While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you! And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.” That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws. —Daniel 4:30-33 (NKJV)

So, be guided and learn to give God all the glory!
