But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
—Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
Do you ever find that your zeal for spiritual things is burning low? Have you ever found yourself feeling spiritually dry, wondering what is going on? Don’t be alarmed—it happens. Many believers go through seasons of dryness. The real issue, however, is not the dryness itself, but how to come out of it. Today, I want to show you some steps that will help you break free from spiritual dryness and reignite your passion for God and His Kingdom.
First, you must go back to God’s Word for study and meditation. In my walk with God, I’ve discovered that one of the greatest sources of spiritual strength is His Word. When you feel spiritually dry, it often means you’ve drifted away from the reality of God’s Word. This usually happens when we get so busy and preoccupied that we no longer make time for it. To overcome this, make a conscious decision to study consistently and dwell on the Scriptures you’ve read. Let the Word minister to you deeply and take root in your heart.
Second, as you study the Word, add prayer and fasting. Why are prayer and fasting important? Because fasting opens your spirit, sharpens your sensitivity, and helps you hear God more clearly. It makes the Word of God come alive with greater depth and brings lasting revelations. Prayer, on the other hand, stirs your spirit and causes the Word you’ve meditated on to take hold within you. Together, prayer and fasting will fan your spiritual fire into flame.
Finally, stay positive in your outlook. See yourself burning with zeal rather than dwelling on feelings of dryness. Many times, what people call spiritual drought is simply a negative mindset. Just because you don’t feel God’s presence or hear His voice does not mean He is absent, nor does it mean you are spiritually dry. It only means you need to grow in sensitivity and remain in faith, trusting that He is always with you. As you shift your perspective and wait on the Lord, your strength will be renewed, just as the Scripture promises: But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. —Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV). Hallelujah!
