Are any among you in trouble? They should pray. Are any among you happy? They should sing praises. —James 5:13 (GNT)
Another reason why prayer is very important in times of difficulty is because when you pray, you receive the counsel of God regarding that situation. As simple as this might sound, it is the key to coming out of that situation victoriously. Do you know why situations often tarry and look insurmountable?
The reason is that we are often aware of the attacks of the Devil but remain ignorant of the counsel of God regarding that specific situation. Because we lack His counsel, we are ignorant of God’s position regarding what we are going through. We do not understand the spiritual dynamics of why the situation occurred or the specific steps we are expected to take.
Instead of taking Spirit-led actions that produce a desired result, we end up taking flesh-inspired actions which only end in pain, pressure, and depression. Beloved, you do not want that for yourself. Therefore, it is important to take prayer seriously. No matter how difficult a situation may be, it cannot stand against the counsel of God.
Why is the counsel of the Lord on a matter so important? It brings you hope, helps you understand the root of the issue, and, most importantly, provides guidance on the steps you need to take to bring that matter to an end. It helps you discern who to meet and who to avoid for any form of assistance.
The counsel of the Lord brings you light and clarity; once this is achieved, you will not give in to pressure or depression. Fear will flee from you, and the grace to take bold steps in the right path will be granted to you. The subject of prayer cannot be overemphasized. It will put you in a position of dominion and authority.
Therefore, I admonish you to take this subject seriously and stand firm in your spiritual armor.
above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance… —Ephesians 6:16-18 (NKJV)
